Romanticism: Characterized by a heightened interest in nature, emphasis on the individual's expression of emotion and imagination, and rebellion against established social rules and conventions.
Example: Collections of Fairy Tales by the Brothers Grimm. Their stories are filled with violence, fear, promiscuity, and just generally bad morals: exactly the kind of high emotion and rebellion Romanticism calls for.
Naturalism: seeks to replicate a believable everyday reality, in good detail.
Example: Robert Frost's "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening". Frost puts nature into the title and throughout the poem, as in lines 7-8 "Between the woods and frozen lake/The darkest evening of the year".
